A United States Postal Service (USPS) tracking number is a unique identifier used to track mail items processed by the United States Postal Service. For instance, a customer using USPS to mail a document would receive a tracking number such as “9405511291447838758653”. This code allows the customer to view the status of their document, including its current location, delivery date, and status updates.
The ability to track mail items provides numerous benefits, including increased transparency, reduced delivery delays, and improved customer satisfaction. Historically, USPS tracking numbers were assigned manually. However, in 1995, the USPS implemented the Delivery Confirmation service, allowing customers to obtain tracking information electronically.
